Abstract
Osseous metaplasia of the endometrium is an uncommon condition occurring in the reproductive age and it is quite rare in postmenopausal age group. The pathogenesis of this condition remains highly controversial. Though the patients commonly present with pelvic pain and excessive bleeding, the important complication is infertility due to the failure in implantation of blastocyst. Hence clinician should consider this as one of the cause for infertility. Similarly this lesion can masquerade in ultrasonogram as foreign body, intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) and neoplasms like teratoma and malignant mixed mullerian tumour (MMMT). Hysteroscopy is the gold standard for treatment and also in diagnosis of this lesion. Properly treated patients can restore their fertility. We incidentally diagnosed, a case of endometrial osseous metaplasia in prolapsed uterus of a post menopausal women. We present this case due to its rarity with review of literature.
