Bibliometric and Analytical Study of References Citation of Accepted Master's Theses at the Departement of Libraryand Information Science at the University of Jordan

Abstract

This study aims at statistically identifying the general and specific characteristics of the Master's degree theses accepted by the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Jordan. The study included all (35) the Master's degree theses accepted by the Department between 2007 and 2016. The study aimed at the analysis of the bibliographic characteristics including are researcher's gender, nationality of the researcher, the most frequent supervisor and the subject matters of the theses. The study also aims at the analysis of citations used in the theses to determine the total counting, the average per thesis and their bibliographic characteristics, including authors, subjects covered, dates of publication, places of publication and the languages of material cited. The study used the bibliometric analysis or what is called statistical bibliography method to conduct the analyses. The study shows that the majority of researchers are female (60%) and that they are from Jordan (82.8%) and that one professor supervised (13) theses (37%). The majority (45.7%) of subjects addressed in the theses was administration and related topics. In terms of citation analysis the study reveals that the 35 theses cited 2871 references, an average of 82 citations per thesis. It also showed that the majority (71%) of citations is in Arabic.
