Reforming of Ukrainian Libraries: Government Development Strategy

The article highlights the strategy of reforming Ukrainian libraries, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The main directions of libraries development in modern conditions are considered. The problems of functioning of the whole library system are highlighted. It is emphasized on the importance of using the entire potential of libraries to consolidate society in a social, political and economic crisis; strengthening the process of Ukraine’s integration into the European community. It is noted that the existing problems require state’ additional efforts to support libraries as a significant factor in socio-cultural adaptation of the population and overcoming of informational and cultural inequality, ensuring unity of Ukrainian regions, democracy and civil society.
