Possibilities of Retrospective Research Library Information and Analytical Resources

The article analyzes the influence of mass media to socio-political state of modern society. Underlined to importance of monitoring the mass media, both for research changes in the social and political sphere, and studying the dominant socio-political mood of society, as well as for retrospective studies of media monitoring materials stored as library information and analytical resources, for the purpose of rethinking and more documented historical research events. An example of content and bibliometric analysis has demonstrated the potential of such retrospective studies. The analysis of the contents of more than 1000 publications of Ukrainian newspapers selected during monitoring process for the IV quarter of 1998 allows us to draw conclusions about the socio-political situation in the country at that time and the relationship between the press and politicians.
