Abstract
Purpose. Analysis of political theories researchers XVII - XIX centuries in electoral systems of the states, consideration of the positive and negative features of different forms of representation. Methods. Using the method of comparative historical and cross-national analysis of the of the views of researchers on the elective system of a representative agency of the State power formation, the authors track the change in the values of democracy in the work of researchers, as well as requirements for the formation and functioning of parliaments in order to improve their effectiveness. Results. According to the analysis, the authors concluded the impossibility of implementing direct form of democracy. At the same time a trend of understanding of the national representation concept through parliament in the period from XVII to XIX centuries was formed. Scientific novelty. The comparative analysis of theories and approaches to understanding the transformation of parliamentary representation, the main trends of interest to the interpretation of the object representation were identified.
