Abstract
Chironjee (Buchanania lanzan) is a common tree in dry deciduous forests. It is endemic to tropical dry deciduous forest of India. It is a good species for growing over bare hill slopes. In view of this, a detail account of chironjee cultivation has been furnished hereunder to help favour its cultivation beyond wild ecosphere. The chemical composition of fruits and kernel, origin and distribution, taxonomy, area and production, soil and climate, species and commercial cultivars, vegetative propagation, planting, tree architecture and pruning, nutrition and water management, harvesting and yield, processing, de-skinning, shelling, and grading of chironjee are discussed.
