Abstract
Apomixis is a genetically governed reproductive mechanism, capable of providing a maternal inheritance of characters and uniform offspring. Increased emphasis on apomixis by a number of research programmes around the world is helping to develop this reproductive mechanism as a perspective plant-breeding tool. In diploid sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) all known apomictic types are detected ? apogamy, diplospory, apospory and adventitious
embryony. Only apospory is functional mechanism of apomixis, lead to complete the matroclinal seminal progeny.
