Abstract
Cervical cancer most commonly metastasizes to lungs, para-aortic nodes, supraclavicular lymph nodes and gastrointestinal tract. Distant metastasis to mediastinum occurs rarely and an isolated mediastinal recurrence is an extremely rare entity. Herewith, describing a 52 years old female patient diagnosed with a solitary mediastinal lymph node metastasis twelve years after undergoing the radical treatment for carcinoma cervix. The congruence between the pathological characteristics and imaging modalities has confirmed the diagnosis of the isolated mediastinal recurrence, very uncommon indeed. The patient was treated using chemotherapy (patient received etoposide and carboplatin) followed by external beam radiation to the residual disease which was confirmed by FDG PET scan. The complete remission of the disease achieved and patients have been on follow up for one year with no signs of disease progression. Attention should be paid to the mediastinum in follow up chest X rays. Regular follow up of cases of cervical cancer with prompt intervention gives the patient a good chance of survival in a late presentation of metastasis.
