Abstract
This paper describes a study of the innovative potential of regional economic systems as one of the most important conditions for sustainable economic development; the notion of the innovation potential of a region is specified; conceptual and logical scheme of the formation and development of innovative potential of regional economic systems is developed. The paper also highlights the different viewpoints of the authors on the criteria for the classification of factors influencing the innovation potential of a district and the major transformational and transactional factors impeding the development of innovative capacity of regional economic system are distinguished.
