Abstract

The article attempts to analyze the work of an outstanding historian and museologist, leader of the Chernihiv archives Commission P. M. Dobrovolsky (1871–1910). The end of XIX-beginning of XX centuries was a period of growing interest of Chernihiv scientists to the history of their native land. In 1896 the scientific archive Commission was formed. Next year the members of this organization will create a historical Museum. It is this atmosphere of love for his city was surrounded by Dobrovolsky. This scientific period is divided into 2 stages: 1. Uvarovskiy (1872–1884 gg.) 2. "Postularse" (1884–1899). During the first stage the activity of Ar- chaeological commissions, historical societies and all-Russian archaeological congresses under the chairmanship of Countess Uvarova became more active.
