Abstract

In this paper the composite material consists of Aluminum Alloy LM6 and (B4C & Ti) has been chosen as matrix and reinforcing materials respectively. Stir casting technique was adopted for a pre-cast billet with a non-dendritic microstructure that is normally produced by vigorously stirring at constant speed and time, then the alloy is casted to the required shape and size as per the ASTM standards. The Boron Carbide and Titanium with different compositions (0.0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%) were added with LM6 Alloy. Various mechanical tests were conducted and found that there is an enhancement of mechanical properties such as tensile strength, micro hardness and wear resistance of the alloy. And also the microstructure of the casted alloy is studied by SEM analysis and observed that the constituents of B4C and Ti were uniformly distributed throughout the alloy.
