Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to experimentally study the variation in performance parameters of the vapor compression refrigeration system when refrigerant is sub cooled by thermoelectric peltier cooling module. Experiments are carried out on the freezer section of vapor compression refrigeration system by varying the load i.e. water quantity in grams and the performance is evaluated to convert water in ice completely. Performance parameters are measured & compared for with and without subcooling of the refrigerant. Coefficient of performance, power consumption per ton of refrigeration are determined for different loads on evaporator by considering the heat loss in the evaporator constant and neglecting it as the same evaporator is used for all experimentation. The effect of subcooling of refrigerant by Peltier cooling is also studied to optimize the use of subcooling for the refrigeration system. The experimental study helps us to know the behavior of the VCR system for different loading conditions and to decide whether sub cooling is necessary at all time or not. A comparative study data is also carried out for with sub cooling and without sub cooling condition. Comparing the results obtained there is decrease in Power Consumption /TR when TEC is integrated with the VCR system. For load 400 gm on the evaporator there is maximum reduction in power consumption i.e. 14.26 % . For load 400 gm on the evaporator there is maximum increase is shown i.e. 6.25%
