Abstract
Mania and other mood changes are known to be associated with various organic etiologies. This case report documents a case of organic mania associated with arachnoid cyst, a phenomenon which has been rarely reported. We describe a case of a young child, in whom an arachnoid cyst manifested initially with manic episode. We present an account of how localized brain cyst could give rise to mania. We therefore emphasize the importance of detailed history, meticulous clinical examination neuroimaging to rule out primary organic pathology in evaluation of mood disorders even in the absence of focal neurological signs.
