DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEDURE IN THE WTO: RUSSIA’S EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The article is devoted to the specific and perspective ways of resolving disputes in the field of interna- tional trade. The author examines the peculiarities of the WTO dispute resolution procedure, identifies its strengths and weaknesses, analyses the experience of interaction between Russia and the WTO. Among the main shortcomings of the WTO system of disputes resolution, the author indicates the time factor, the difficulties as- sociated with the workload of the Appellate Body, a number of legal restrictions affecting the work of the panels. Recommendations for Russia to optimize foreign trade relations and relations with the WTO are formulated. They include providing financial support to domestic companies, economic policy with a focus on the WTO rules implementation, analysing the materials on the precedents of dispute resolution, mastering the techniques of argumentation when filing claims to the WTO, the tactics and techniques of negotiation
