RETROSPECTIVE STUDY OF ACUTE RENAL FAILURE IN POSTPARTUM WOMEN AND ITS OUTCOME IN A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the etiology ,Management strategies and prognosis of the patients with postpartum ARF .Study Design Retrospective study Place and duration Department of obstetrics and gynaecology from November 2012- October 2013. Materials and Methods Pregnant women who were healthy previously and developed ARF in the postpartum period diagnosed on oliguria or azotemia (creatinine 2mgdl) were included. Patients with underlying CKD were excluded from the study. Results 346 patients with acute renal failure were admitted in one year. 28 women diagnosed with ARF were included. Frequency of postpartum ARF was 28346(8.09). The clinical spectrum included 2228 (78.57) cases of PIHHELLP eclampsia . It followed vaginal delivery in 828 (28.5) patients and in 2028 (71.43) cases after caesarean section, Maternal outcome showed that 728(25) patients died 1328 (46.4) showed complete recovery, 628 (21.42) had partial Recovery. Conclusion Most common cause of pregnancy related acute renal failure is Preeclampsiaassociated with other risk factors like abruption, IUD, DIC . Pregnancy related acute renal failure has a very high maternal mortality and morbidity.
