Abstract

Considering the difficulty of obtaining good seed physiological quality and optimal techniques for the production of seedlings per seed, the aim of this study was to evaluate the germination of seeds jatoba, under different dormancy breaking methods. The research was conducted at seed laboratory at the Federal Institute of the Holy Spirit - Campus Santa Teresa. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications of 25 seeds. The treatments were composed of seed soaking for 30 minutes in the following solutions: distilled water (23ºC) (control), hot water (100°C), gibberellin 2000mg.mL-1 solution, ice water (0°C), chloride potassium 50 g L-1 and coconut water. The following variables were evaluated: germination percentage (G); germination speed index (GSI); mean germination time (GMT). Treatment with coconut water showed the best rates for jatobá seed and treatment with water 90 ° impaired germination, not recommended for jatobá seeds.
