Abstract
Imam Azam Abu Hanifa is one of the most important scholars of Islamic thought. He has a creative and innovative character based on a strong intelligence, mental inference and intuition. Abu Hanifa, considered an authority in the fields of Islam-ic Theology and Islamic law, tried to find solutions to the society problems with the Qur'an and Sunnah oriented thought system. He respected different perspectives in scientific matters and did not impose his principles as the only truth. He con-sidered knowledge as a requirement for practices and deed. According to him, worshipping cannot be fully and properly appreciated without a proper knowledge. He did not value the world presented to him with all its glory. He had no intent to derive benefit from the reputation he gained from his religious studies. Moreover, he warned people who do otherwise. Since he was living within the so-ciety, he knew the character of people well so that he could communicate with any type of people easily. With his tolerant mindset, he tried to reveal the real truth and he never hesitated to express his own ideas. He gave great importance to the hu-man dignity. He was very careful not to hurt the pride of students that he support-ed financially. He adopted a livable religiosity far from extremism. He was a beau-tiful example with his moral and virtues such as asceticism, devout, piety, right-eousness, sincerity, trust, generosity, helping people who is suffering. In this study religious life, asceticism, devout, and piety of Abu Hanifa are discussed.
