Abstract
A Teratoma is a neoplasm, with components resembling normal derivatives of more than one germ layer. Congenital tumors of oral pharynx are rare. Epignathus is an extremely rare form of congenital teratoid tumor arising from the oropharyngeal region. These babies face the danger of airway obstruction as they occupy a significant portion of the oral cavity and death due to asphyxia. We present a case of congenital oropharyngeal teratoma in a two day old baby. This is a rare entity with the incidence of 1 in 35,000 to 2,00,000 births. Prenatal ultrasonography helps in the earlier diagnosis of these obstructive tumors. With improved treatment modalities and safe airway management these patients have improved prognosis.
