Abstract
Sacro coccygeal chordomas are tumours that arise from the remnants of embryonic notochord. They are slow growing tumours which are locally aggressive invading the vital structures. Here we report a case of sacro-coccygeal chordoma in a 55 yr old female. She presented with low back ache for the past 6 months. Patient also had a swelling in the left gluteal region. There was no neurological deficit. There was no bowel or bladder disturbance. The patient was evaluated MRI of the perineum was done. MRI revealed a mass in the sacrum coccyx involoving the left sacral plexus the left sciatic nerve. Biopsy of the tumour was done sent for histopathological examination. It showed physaliferous cells characteristic of chordoma. The patient was diagnosed as sacro-coccygeal chordoma. Since the tumour was invading the vital structures, surgery was not done patient was advised palliative radiotherapy.
