SUBGLOTTIC STENOSIS - A CASE REPORT

There are many causes for noisy breathing in a child. Any site in the upper airway can become obstructed and cause noisy breathing as well as dyspnea. These include nasal causes such as choanal atresia or nasal stenosis, pharyngeal causes including lingual thyroid, laryngeal causes such as laryngomalacia and subglottic stenosis, and tracheobronchial causes such as tracheal stenosis. Subglottic stenosis is the third leading cause of congenital stridor in the neonates. Most cases are self limited, but some require intervention that requires a multidisciplinary approach, with the ENT surgeon taking a primary role. A case of subglottic stenosis is presented here. A 3 years old female child presented with stridor which worsened on exertion. She was diagnosed as subglottic stenosis and was managed with coblation excision of the lesion. This case of subglottic stenosis is presented for its rarity and the new minimally invasive approach using coblation in management.
