Abstract
This research is aimed on studying the works of foreign orientalists of different times, highlighting main actors in conducting field research in Jordan, such as medieval travelers, pioneers of new time, forming the basic principles of Oriental studies as a science, as well as British intelligence officers who to a certain extent have formed due to their special skills and scientific knowledge the ways of development vector of Jordan which was set in the first half of the 20th century, during the period of the British Mandate. The study plays particularly important role from the point of view of a historical approach, given that the activities of selected persons have shaped a certain cultural and socio-political context within which the Jordanian state is developing to our days.
