Abstract
In this paper authors analyze the current state of the theory of sustainable development. Definition of "sustainable economy" based on the distinction between different regulatory objectives leading to efficiency and equity is presented. Authors analyze contents of the sustainable state economy (SSE) chosen by environmental economists in the Francophone world and SSE launched mainly in North America. Authors also consider strategic statements, which can form the transition from weak sustainable development (WSD) to the strong sustainable development (SSD).
