Non-religious Literature in the Libraries of the Roman-Catholic Friars of the Lutsk / Lutsko-Zytomyrskii Dieses in 17-19th Century: the Book-science Observation

Abstract

The article covers the factual material about the non-religious literature in the libraries of ten roman-catholic friars on the territory of Lutsk/Lutsko-Zytomyrska dieses in the 17-19th century: Cremenets, Lutsk and Ostrig Jesuit Colleges, Berdychiv and Vyshnivets friars of barefoot Carmelites, Berestechko, Lutsk and Teophipol Trinitarian friars, Dedercaly and Cremenets friars of Franciscan-reformats. Its rests upon the original sources: the old-printed books from named libraries, the manuscript catalogues of the Berdychiv Carmelits’ library and the Volyn orthodoxy ecclesiactical seminary's library, the manuscript inventory of the library of the Lutsk Jesuit College. The general survey of the editions on astronomy, mathematics, medicine, geography, history, philology, the works by antique authors from the libraries’ funds has been done. This literature played a definite role in the vital activity of monastic community and was used in scholarship, to individual reading, divine service, preparing new members of clergary. The information about non-religious editions is accompanied with historical and bibliographical commentaries.
