Abstract
Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) may be described as a collection of clinical syndromes that manifests as an acute inflammatory polyradiculoneuropathy with resultant weakness and diminished reflexes. There have been several descriptions of reflex preservation and hyperreflexia in the acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) variant of GBS in Chinese, Japanese and European populations but it is not common in the Indian subcontinent.1,2 We present one such case of AMAN who presented with acute onset of ascending weakness with rapid progression to respiratory failure, retained reflexes and extensor plantar. Diagnosis was confirmed with CSF analysis and nerve conduction studies and child was treated with intravenous immunoglobulin for 5 days and discharged after significant improvement .This case report is to impress upon treating pediatricians and neurologists in recognising the rare presentations of this rare variant.
