Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the modality expression of metaphors and interpersonal style of Barack Obama's public speeches, his election night victory and inaugural address. SEG (systemic functional grammar),introduced by Halliday (1994), pay significant attention to generating utterances to convey their desired meanings by speakers, its role in improving learners' comprehension and use of public speaking and expressing their ideas, intentions, attitudes, and positions to their addressees, was used as the method of discourse analysis and the theoretical framework. To discuss and explore the main points and to validate the data, the descriptive statistics was applied in this research.
