CUTTING TOOL SELECTION FOR A TURNING OPERATION AT CNC MACHINE ENVIRONMENT BY USING GT CODES

This paper presents the development of a Group Technology (GT) code based system for selection of cutting tools and conditions of turning operations. The system developed can be used to select the tool holder and insert. It is able to analyse and optimise cutting tools required for particular turning operation. This system is constructed and implemented using Optiz GT code method and machine cloud app. The inputs to the system developed are the part family and standard tool files, which include the representation of the part features and cutting tools.
