Abstract

Present work discusses the performance, emission and combustion characteristics of a twin cylinder four stroke diesel engines fuelled with biodiesel such as sesame oil methyl ester (SOME), waste fry oil methyl ester (WFOME) and added multi walled carbon nanotubes. The investigation was conducted in four steps using an experimental set up consisting of a twin cylinder diesel engine coupled with an eddy current dynamometer loading, an AVL five gas analysis, an AVL smoke meter and piezoelectric pressure transducer and a crank angle encoder: using neat diesel fuel (NDF), SOME, WFOME and MWCNT's in four steps. All the experiments are conducted at a constant engine speed (1500rpm) under the full load conditions of the engine and the results revealed that a considerable enhancement of brake thermal efficiency of the MWCNT's than WFOME and SOME, combustion characteristics are changed when compared to neat diesel fuel and caused of biodiesel with MWCNT's reduced in oxides of carbon (CO and CO2) unburnt hydrocarbons (UHC) oxides of nitrogen (NOX) emissions and smoke opacity
