Abstract
The main objective of this research study was to analyze the behavior of isolated footings of reduced size, supported on granular material and subject to axial load, before failure by punching shear resistance. The experimental program included tests on 5 square reinforced concrete footings of 450 mm by side, reinforced with 6.3 mm bars. Experimental results were compared with theoretical ones, according to the ACI Code 318-14. The results showed a 2.25 average ratio between shear resistance predicted by the code and the experimental one. It was concluded that the code is extremely conservative for the parameters defining the tested footing
