Abstract

In this article, the poem “This Is A Sea Voyage To You” (“Es Ist Eine Seerreise Bis Zu Dir") will be analysed with Turkish translation, which was written in 10.03.1951, by Hertha Kräftner (1928-1951) who is considered as one of the prominent representatives of postwar Austrian literature (Nachkriegsliteratur) and of the 20th century woman literature (Frauenliteratur). In this poem, of which the title meant in Turkish "Bu Sana Bir Deniz Seferidir", the prominent images can be specified as sea, sea travel, wind, ship and steelsman. The aim of this study in this poetic scene formed by all of these images is to reveal the conversion of the sea travel by lyrical self to a concrete beloved into a death travel within the context of deep semantic level of the poem. In other words, we reveal that how love phenomenon travels to death. The poem is going to be analyzed, as a basis, by means of psychoanalytic and archetypal criticism within the frame of "Kharon Complex" raised by Gaston Bachelard. Totally in this study, an eclectic method that blends different methods such as text/ writer/ reader-oriented criticsm in a balanced way will be utilized considering the open structure of the poem-text examined for plural readings. The significance of this study is that in our country it is the first academic study that is going to be done on this poem by Hertha Kräftner and it is an important fact that the poem has never been read within the frame of “Kharon Complex” in the studies abroad.
