Information and Analytical Products of Libraries as a Means of Popularization of Ukrainian Science

The paper addresses to the role of information and analytical products of libraries in the field of science popularization. Attention is paid to the significance of keeping the general public being well and timely informed on the achievements of Ukrainian researchers in view of the strategic course of our state for acquiring Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union and in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It is emphasized that in the context of the entry of modern society into the informational stage of its development, an exceptional role in the popularization of science is played by scientific libraries, which experience the new forms and means of collecting, processing, presenting and disseminating knowledge as they primarily concerned the sphere of the activity of libraries. The paper considers the activity of the Information and Analytical Support Service of the State Authorities of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine on informing the general public and authorities about the situation in the scientific sphere of Ukraine. In particular, publication and dissemination of materials for the issue of information-analytical bulletin “Ways of Ukrainian Science Development” are considered as an example of effective activity in the area of informing society about achievements, important results of scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activity of our scientists, raising the authority and prestige of science in Ukraine. It is noted that the publication of the bulletin from the very beginning was aimed at the implementation of measures, determined by the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, for improving the perception of science by society, and today its main tasks correspond to the statutory tasks of the highest scientific self-governing organization of Ukraine, namely: the need for popularization of scientific achievements of Ukrainian scientists in the country and abroad in order to increase the prestige of scientific activity in society, to form scientific outlook, to counteract pseudoscience, to strengthen the intellectual potential of society, to develop education, to raise the international authority of Ukraine.The experience of SIAS of V.Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine in the field of popularization of science, in particular, in preparation and publication of the information-analytical bulletin “Ways of Ukrainian Science Development”, allows one to conclude that despite difficult financial conditions Ukrainian researchers, first of all representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, continue working hard for the benefit of our country and gaining significant results across a wide range of basic and applied research.
