Abstract
The construction industry in Ghana has come a long way over the years with the introduction of a wide range of materials; both indigenous and imported. The Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) conducted an extensive research on the production of Pozzolana from local resources and licensed Pozzolana Ghana Limited (PGL) as the sole producer of the cement named PozzoMix Portland Cement. One important objective was to reduce cost of cement by 18-20%, and save up to US$30 million annually emanating from imports. The objective of the study was to examine the reason for the low utilization and patronage of Pozzolana cement in the Ghanaian construction industry, Findings from the research indicated that the low patronage of Pozzolana cement was due to a low level of awareness, the lack of commercially available uantities of the product on the market, poor marketing and lack of active governmental support.
