Epidemiological profile of leprosy cases in the municipality of Paragominas-PA

Abstract
Leprosy is a chronic infectious contagious disease that is caused by Mycobacterium leprae, which affects the skin, causing nerve sensitivity change, and can lead to motor disability. The objective of this research was to analyze the epidemiological profile of leprosy cases in the municipality of Paragominas, from 2010 to 2018. The method applied was deductive, with quantitative and qualitative approach, observational in nature. It was associated with this method, the survey of documentary data published between 2009 and 2018 in open access electronic links such as SciELO, Ministry of Health, Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), and the geographical administrative plant of the municipality of Paragominas. The analysis of the data obtained indicated that the highest rate of leprosy occurred in the neighborhoods Laércio Cabeline (90 = 10.46%), Colônia/Fazenda (76 = 8.83%), Jardim Atlântico (74 = 8.60%), Promissão Loteamento III (69 = 8.02%), Jaderlândia (68 = 7.90%); in relation to the gender of those affected by this disease, the analysis of the data indicated that the male gender (500=58.13%) is the most affected; as for the age group, the highest incidence was between 31 and 40 years old, the highest incidence was between 31 and 40 years old. Regarding the educational level, the most affected have low education and reside in DAs furthest from the city center. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the care for diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients with M. leprae whose residence is far from the Basic Health Units
