Abstract
Kufa, the administrative center of central Iraq, has been known as a heart of knowledge and wisdom from the date of es-tablishment. Many admirable scholars in different fields have been trained in Kufa. Imâm Abû Hanîfa was the one of these scholars. Abû Hanîfa was born in the year 80 A. H. in this city. He has mem-orized the Quran in the early period of his life and interested in religious studies early in his life. Abû Hanîfa attended Imam Ham-mad's scholarly circle and later he had become the most important tutor of this circle. After the death of Hammad, Abû Hanîfa became the foremost authority in the field of Islamic law in Kufa. Abû Hanî-fa died in the year 150 A. H. in Kufa. He has left behind many scholars; every one of them was adopted as mujtahid.
