Abstract
Al-Ghazâlî is one of the most important thinkers of the Islamic world. Having written several books on both physical and meta-physical realms, he is considered to be a theologian and a sufi (mystic) and a philosopher at times. He had tried to revive the re-ligion with his workİhau'l-ulumiddin (The Revival of Religious Sci-ences) and criticized the philosophy with Tehafütü'l-felasife (The Incoherence of Philosophers). He also added a hundred-page logic preface in his fiqh (Islamic Law)-related work named al-Mustapha saying that “He who does not comprehend logic (mantiq) cannot be trusted”. Besides, he based logic on divine resource in his work named Al-Qistas al-Mustaqim (The Correct Balance) and claimed that the esoteric (Batini) distorted the meanings of Koranic verses by misusing the logic. We will briefly introduce Al-Ghazâlî's life in this article and present his views on philosophy, theology, sufism, logic and fiqh.
