Abstract
The formation of representations and concepts about inanimate nature at mentally retarded pupils is an important research problem. The special teaching method of subject "Natural History" is not published; there are no methodical recommendations for teachers, parents; in higher education institutions and special teacher training colleges there is no such academic discipline as "Teaching method of natural history at special correctional schools of the VIII category"; the textbook and exercise book are published only in 2011. There is a contradiction between existence of academic discipline and lack of methodical support.
