EVALUATION OF PORTABLE PULSEOXYMETRY DEVICE PERFORMANCE IN ISCHEMIA CONDITIONS

Aim. Accuracy of pulse oximetry results in the presence of synthetic nail cover under ischemia condition, and the influence of the skin colour on saturation and determine difference between indication of saturation by professional and portable pulseoxymetry device. Materials and Methods. Pulse oxmetry results of 25 white-skinned people have been analyzed: 8-without nail polish, 7- dark gel polish, 6-light gel polish and 4-polish. And 8 black-skinned people without nail polish. Research equipment are: portable pulseoxymetry device Сhoice MMed MD300C15F and professional device DASH 3000. Korotkov's method was used during measuring blood pressure and during pulseometry tsensors were put on the fingers of the same hand. Emerge ischemia of upper extremity by pushing air into cuff and support pressure for within 60 sec. The results of pulseoxymetry device which sensors were on the fingers were fixed during ischemia and during rehabilitation period. Results. During the ischemia modulation it was fixed, that saturation level of White-skinned people without nail polish, with light polish and black-skinned people reduced 6, 11 and 8%. Using dark nail polish the level of saturation reduced 48% from the natural one. Such enormous reduction is the result of using dark nail polish. The level of saturation doesn't depend on quality of popular nail polish such as : gel and gel poish. Portable pulseoxymetry devices in 92% cases don't reflect any differences in saturation conditions of ischemia. Conclusions. Portable pulseoxymetry devices don't reflect the differences in conditions of ischemia. There are no great odds in the results of saturation of nails with different types of polish. Polish colour has influence on the results. Reduction of saturation level of black-skinned people with light nail poish is non-critical. Dark nail polish reduces the level of saturation in conditions of ischemia and increases proportion of critical ischemia results.
