Abstract

Objectives: This study was conducted at Amman University to test the clinical effectiveness of auditory steady-state response (ASSR) for estimation hearing threshold in patients with normal hearing and sensorineural hearing loss Method: The study was carried out on 25 normally hearing students at Amman University and 35 patients who had sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The subjects underwent behavioral audiometric evaluation, impedance testing, distortion product otoacoustic emissions, and steady-state response testing. A t test was performed to compare the means of ASSR predicted behavioral thresholds and behavioral responses. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated at each tested frequency, 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, 2,000 Hz, and 4,000 Hz, using the same data. Special care was taken to minimize possible aliasing and high-intensity multiple stimulation effects. Differences and correlations between the ASSR and pure tone audiogram were determined.
