Abstract
The study evaluates residential satisfaction of residents of private gated communities in Chennai, India. Post Occupancy Evaluation is the most common approach adopted in evaluating Residential Satisfaction. Housing creates a significant impact on human beings. The function of housing is not restricted to just the provision of shelter and security; it also needs to cater to the physiological and sociological needs of its users. The Indian private housing sector has witnessed the growth of several gated communities. Gated communities were established with the purpose of creating a sense of belonging among its residents. The study revealed that with regard to the housing environment, determinants in the private space met the objectives of the users when compared to the determinant in the public space. This highlights the need, for more focus in the planning and design of the public space within the gated communities.
