Abstract
Scientometrics is one of the tools used to analyze the country's S&T development. The book provides the description of the main scientometric indicators and the methodology of scientometric analysis. Scientometric indicators are used in assessing the effectiveness of researchers, lecturers, research teams, scientific and educational organizations. They are taken into account in the course of allocation of appropriations of the federal budget. However the reader should bear in mind the words of Eugene Garfield, who emphasized that scientometric quantitative data should not be used as the only criterion for assessing the quality of research by a scientific institution or individual researchers. These indicators can contribute to the formation of a balanced expert judgment. The use of quantitative data without proper prior training for handling them and a critical view can impede the progress of research and scientific personnel.
