Abstract
The study aims at shedding light on the Ottoman salanamah in terms of its origin, development, and importance in modern Arab history (1847-1917). The study examines the origin of salanamah, its date of publication, and its authors, and it touches upon the types and their divisions. The study then referrs to the language, the artist, and the places where such salanamah exists in terms of numbers, or some numbers that concern a particular area or state. The previous studies also deal with the nature of interest in the study of salanamah, which are concentrated on the study of the region or country, through presenting the most important people who studied these salanamah in this aspect. Finally, the study talks about the importance of salanamah. This study followed the analytical descriptive method, and reaches the following results: There are few studies that are concerned with salanamah in general. The Ottoman salanamah covers a very small period of the history of the Ottoman Empire and its rule of the Arab countries covering only 70 years. The Ottoman salanamah is an important source in the study of modern Arab history in terms of the types of salanamah, the states' salanamah are the main source of their history.
