Abstract

The ileosigmoid knotting is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction. The volvulus of the sigmoid complicating pregnancy is a rare entity with less than 80 observations have been published in the literature. Its diagnosis remains difficult and its prognosis essentially depends on the precocity of the treatment. We report a case of ileosigmoid knotting occurred during the postpartum period in a 40 years old primiparous woman who presented to the emergency on D2 postpartum after a vaginal delivery with occlusive syndrome and generalized abdominal defense. An exploratory laparotomy revealed a double ileosigmoid volvulus complicated by intestinal necrosis over 1.8 meters, with the presence of a few false membranes. This work proposes through this clinical case to review the data in the literature and to engage the general principles of care and treatment.
