Abstract

The study of Qiraat has begun since the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) started talaqqi with the Gabriel and applied among the companions until the present generation of Muslims.The perseverance of the companions in the study of Qiraat is evidenced by the appearance of Qiraat experts like Saidina Uthman bin Affan, Saidina Ali bin Abi Talib, Abd ar-Rahman al-Sulami and others.The objective of this study was to identify the background of the respondents and to study the students' perceptions of teaching and learning Qiraat. The design of the study used was quantitative method using questionnaire method. The questionnaire in based on likert scale -5 was used to obtain respondents' information regarding the perception of teaching and learning Qiraat. A total of 146 respondents answered the questionnaire distributed among two-year respondents involved in the Bachelor of Arabic Language and Communication program with Honour, USIM based on Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. The findings of the study show that students' perception of Qiraat education is in good condition with high interest and awareness that Qiraat education also plays an important role in Islamic education. However, there are still a need for improvement in the aspects of teaching aids that are more interesting and effective in keeping with the latest multimedia developments in order to capitalize on Qiraat education at higher levels.
