Abstract

The environmental conservation status of riverfronts is of interest not only to environmental administrative bodies but also to the population who enjoy it. The objective of this research was to analyze the environmental perception of three social groups that frequent the Orla Sebastião Miranda, on the Tocantins River, in the municipality of Marabá, Pará. The inductive method was applied, with a quantitative and qualitative scope, of an applied nature and exploratory modality, The primary data were obtained with informal interviews with the three social groups, and the secondary data were selected from electronic research in open access links such as SciELO, CAPES, Web Science, Science Direct, among others. The selection period for publications took place between 2010 and 2020. For statistical analysis of the data obtained, the spreadsheets contained in the software Excel, Version 2013. The Descriptive Statistics were used to calculate the frequencies (absolute and relative) and mean. The analysis of the data obtained from the 120 sampled individuals, indicated that the social group “ambulant” presented higher values for frequency (n = 58; 100%), its objective (n = 40; 69.26%), residence (n = 55; 94.82%) and conservation status of the Tocantins River (n = 58; 100%). So the value of environmental perception ranged from 3.3 to 4.0. For the second, "ribeirinho," the value was between 1.7 to 2.4 and, finally, the third, called "passerte," the value was equivalent to 2.5 and 3.2. Therefore, the perception of social groups that frequent riverbanks can be the object of consultation and the data used by water and environmental administration bodies.
