The article focuses on androcentrism and the ways it manifests itself in languages of patriarchal and post-patriarchal societies (the letter embrace in particular the nations of a modern European civilization) as one of the landmarks in the system of linguistic coordinates I — HERE — NOW (equally with anthropocentrism, a ‟master” principle, a socially active person principle, etc.), which is one of the cardinal principles that arranges grammatical and word-building linguistic levels with a marked category of gender, as well as a conspicuous phenomenon in structuring lexico-semantic, phraseological and paroemiological levels, in building texts and its dubious acceptance by a modern society, too. The male designations are a rather common point of departure for designating both females (in nomination on the whole, in word-formation, in grammar), and person in general (irrespective of sex); a common practice is an alternate transition from designating people as such towards the idea of representing only a masculine gender. Language also reveals nominative-evaluative, classification and function-frequency asymmetries of male and female images — commonly ‟in favour” of males.
