Abstract
Abstract: Anaemia is a state in which the amount of red blood cells as well their oxygen-carrying ability is decient to meet up physiologic requirements of the body. The highest prevalence of anemia in Pakistan among females of age range 15-49 years was 51.10% during 2011. levels and to improve their overall health status. 1* 1 1 1 Sidra Khalid , Muhammad Arif Khan , Bahisht Rizwan and Barira Azfar 1 University Institute of Diet and Nutritional Sciences, University of Lahore, Lahore, Pakistan Objective: To estimate the hemoglobin levels for the determination of status of anaemia among female students of University Institute of diet and Nutritional Sciences (UIDNS), The University of Lahore (UOL). Methods: A total of 78 girls were randomly selected from UIDN, UOL for survey study. Data was collected from the pathological laboratory reports consisting of the hemoglobin level investigations performed for the survey report record. Data was analyzed by using Minitab Version 16. The result was derived by mean, frequency, standard deviation, and variance Results: The nal analysis of hemoglobin level revealed that 69.23% female students were non-anaemic while 30.76% were anaemic out of which only 1.28% female students were severely anaemic, 8.97% were moderately anaemic and 20.51% were mildly anaemic. Conclusions: More than half of the girls were non- anaemic while the rest were suffering from varying degrees of anemia (mild, moderate and severe). The anemic girls were advised to consult their nutritionist and family physicians for immediate treatment in order to normalize their hemoglobin Key words: Hemoglobin Level, Anaemia, Female students.
