Abstract
Abstract: Teachers have been identied as at increased risk of developing an occupational voice disorder. Secondary school teachers are particularly at risk as they have little opportunity for voice rest during the working days. Objective: To nd the frequency of voice disorders in secondary school teachers. Methods: A Cross sectional study was conducted using convenient sampling among secondary school teachers during 6 months by self-structured questionnaire, formatted with the help of voice handicap index (VHI). The study was conducted among 372 secondary school teachers of Sialkot and Lahore from July 2016 to December 2016. Government and private secondary school teachers, aged between 25-50 years, with teaching experience of more than 3 years were selected. SPSS version 21.0 was used for data analysis. Results: The mean age of participants were 35.42±6.09. Overall frequency distribution of voice disorders in secondary school teachers affecting their physical health was 48.4%, emotional health 49.7%, and functional health 77.4%. Conclusions: Voice disorders were very common in the secondary school teachers. The most frequently affected teachers were belong to junior classes.
