The article deals with the present-day state of Ukrainian-Russian language contacts (at the turn of the twenty-first century), which are characterized by some weakening of Russian language influences on the Ukrainian language and, vice versa, reinforcement of Ukrainian language influences on the Russian language (in Ukraine), by the greater attention of Ukrainian-speaking community to problems of national originality of Ukrainian (with «estrangement» in particular from Russian). The article includes analysis of both Russian borrowings proper in the corpus of the Ukrainian language and Russian textual inclusions in the structure of the Ukrainian speech, their semantic, stylistic, and pragmatic functions.
