Abstract
The paper discusses the influence of industrial espionage on profitability among employees from the accounting unit of selected engineering firms. Industrial espionage wasargued to be an illegal practice and damaging to technology transfer and innovation. Whereas it was argued that industrial espionage might result in increased profitability for engineering firms indulging in such practice, lawsuits against such firms might also result in financial bankruptcy. Greater transparency in the market due to information exchange may have direct benefit on consumers as well as create efficiencies for engineering companies involved, leading to improved consumer welfare.
