Abstract

People atall times had to protect themselves and their property from the encroachments of neighbors, and therefore the art of fortification, that is, the construction of fortifications, is very ancient. In Europe and Asia, you can everywhere see fortresses built in ancient times and in the Middle ages, as well as in Modern and even Modern times. Simultaneously with the birth and development of the art of building fortifications around settlements (cities) and along the borders of ancient States, the art of attacking (besieging) these fortifications arises and develops. There are many examples of the defense and storming of fortress cities in history. This is not surprising. The party that was attacked and did not have the strengthfor a field battle, preferred to defend themselves in the fortress cities, where the surrounding population also gathered in search of salvation. In this case, the other side was forced to take the fortress city by storm. Over time, the defense and storming of fortresses became bright pagesin the book of the history of military art, which often reduced the results of the entire war, and the names of military leaders who held or captured the fortress city were forever written in this book. In this regard, there is a need to draw an analogy between the tactics of fighting for the capture and defense of castles, fortresses and ancient cities and establish a relationship with modern tactics in the fight for cities in urban areas
