Abstract
Disc Brakes have been rapidly gaining popularity over drum brakes due to numerous disadvantages of the latter. Since disc brake is present in the plentitude of automobiles today, an attempt to made to analyze a disc brake assembly using finite element analysis. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative study of two different materials used to make brake linings of a disc brake viz., Kevlar and organic composite material. Stress and deformation are analyzed in the study under constant torque and comparison of results of the two materials is presented. This paper reports the frictional stresses, deformation, Von-Mises stress, while using Kevlar and composite brake linings in a disc brake under constant torque. Kevlar is found to be more suitable for brake pads.
